U.S. Federal Reserve and U.S. officials are struggling with the law!

Officials at both the U.S. Federal Reserve and the U.S. Treasury said on Wednesday they are struggling to draft rules that could ban bank and credit card payments to illegal Internet gambling sites because Federal Law is very unclear about what type of online gambling is illegal.
The Congress passed a bill in 2006 that prohibited companies from accepting payments in connection with “unlawful Internet gambling” and instructed the ‘Federal Reserve’ and the ‘Treasury Department’ to come up with rules that could enforce the act.
However, instead of defining which types of gambling are illegal online, the ‘Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006′ (UIGEA) relied on existing Federal and state laws to answer that question.
Because it allowed horserace betting as permissible under the Interstate Horseracing Act of 1978 both the gambling and the financial industry companies now insist on being told specifically which transactions can be blocked and which not.

An Iowa Casino Might Soon Allow 18 Year Olds

Kepros who is a gambling addiction counselor has some advice for young adults heading out to have fun at a casino, “Have a better overall idea of what you’re getting into and where it could take you, because otherwise it has a tendency to creep up on you”.
The tribe’s gaming contract with the state does regulate games such as blackjack but the difference is that the casino has a stake in the outcome of blackjack and slots whereas only the players win and lose in games like Texas hold-em.

France considers allowing online gambling

The French government is said to be seriously considering the legalizing of online gambling.
Prime Minister Francois Fillon’s office said it is in the process of studying the report that it commissioned last November into how the on line gambling market might be opened up in France.
All Internet based games involving money are presently outlawed in France, except for the French lottery monopoly Francaise des Jeux and pari-mutuel (or pool betting) horse betting monopoly PMU, which offer on-line betting and scratch cards.

The report apparently identifies three different ways to open up the tightly regulated French market.

888 announces big rise in activity and profits!

The online gaming company 888 announced on Wednesday (May 7 2008) that the first quarter of 2008 started extremely well with a 38% rise in net gaming revenue and added that growth, driven mainly by casino and bingo games has continued into the second quarter

Levy said in a trading statement on Wednesday, “Our various business initiatives are progressing well and we are therefore confident in delivering future growth during 2008″.
Total operating income rose 41% to $66 million from $47 million a year earlier.
